Just in case anyone doesn't know, and to save a lot of explaining, Julia was knocked off her bike on practice day. It was on a descent at 35mph when a rider tried to go through a gap that wasn't there. She's suffered a sprung AC shoulder joint, fractured scapula and ribs as well as a lot of bad cuts, grazes and bruises - quite a mess, and he didn't even apologise. Obviously she couldn't start but we stayed on to watch. Having looked at the competitors and times I'm convinced she would have won her age group. We also have £1500 worth of damage to the bike and a wasted year of preparation.
Commiserations also to Bill Boynton who qualified but couldn't compete because of an injured Achilles tendon.
No doubt they'll both be up for it again in 2011.
