First topic message reminder :

Hello all, gulp, here goes....

I've entered the Outlaw Long Distance Shocked and was thinking of doing a few middle distance events in the build up. So would like to know who else is doing what and when. I'm thinking of doing Bala Middle and the Trentham Big Half, anyone else doing these?

Perhaps it would be a good idea to put on the forum who's doing which events so we could all buddy-up etc and have a laugh!

Cheers,
Jaffa (Nigel Turner, newbie!)

yep, 2 bike laps and the 10 sounds good. You both sound WAY faster on the bike than me but hey, let me have a bash at 15mph as it's just 2 laps not 3 now and I understand it's not too hilly.

I doubt we're faster than you, and you can always follow our wheels if it gets tough!!! Onyl kidding, it's a recce so we can enjoy it as it's going to take about 5 hours, then 90min run after.

Yes 9am fine. We could do with swapping mobile numbers just in case - if I can figure out how to 'pm' on this forum I will send you my mob number. My other half may tag along for the ride but will have a brew while we do the run! What a Face

Guys - we'll be doing 87 miles if we go from start, do 2 laps and back to start. That the plan? Also just to make sure we all go to the right car park (!), we meeting at watersports car park?

Yeah, 80+ miles, quite a lot isn't it. If the weather poor we could always cut the ride short or have a 20min run afterwards instead of 10 miles. My right calf is giving me all sorts of pain, the gastro but esp the soleus near the shin bone is really tender - could be shin splints or compartment syndrome or both! Either way it's not fun so a long run may be out of the question.

Good point about the meeting place - the main car park will be fine, though there will be a lot of other Outlaw riders turning up tomorrow. I'll be in a dark green ford focus, DX02 reg, probably wearing a garish Michelin man outfit or luminous cycle jacket!! Do we have to pay for parking?

Hi guys i did 1 lap of the bike course last week, very nice, only one or two small hills, lots of flats, mixture of busy and quiet roads generally good road surface. Was quite windy when i did it, think that might be the norm on the straights! Road coming back to the watersports centre is awful, potholes and lots of loose gravel, makes you think you have taken a wrong turn! Didnt get to do any running as had pub stop halfway round Twisted Evil and ran out of time. Would have joined you tomorrow but on nights tonight, have a good ride, hope weather is kind to you. x Ps car parking is free, showers available at watersports centre, Elsie you will just have to ask at reception for the code.

Hmmmmm,Think the weather is going to be a bit of everthing tomorrow.Jaffa soz to hear about your injuries but we can ride and then decide on how far we run if that works for all.Personally particularly interested in bike course recce.Interesting comments from "H" re the wind.I had heard it was suceptable to wind on the bike.I understand that the particularly rough bits of raod are to be covered in some way for the return to watersports centre? Will be interesting to see how they manage that?Anway looking forward to it,will be there hopefully slightly early and will aim for main car park. Will be in a black van.Elsie have your number so if we miss then sure we can manage a meet somewhere
catch you all tomorrow

Thanks guys, had a good day - feeling a bit better about it now (but not much!). Hope the tapers go well (Jaffa!) and you both stay fit. I'll be mainly resting my hip for the next 3 weeks and crossing my fingers! See you in 3 weeks Wink

Hi guys,Elsie thanks for the info and also thanks for the ride and run yesterday.really enjoyed it and think riding the bike course was invaluable.
You are right what a lovely bloke Rob was and like you was interested in reading his recent results/history when i got in last night. For him to spend that amount of time out of what was obviously a training ride was fantastic. Not many pros of any sport would do that.He certainly gets my vote.Hope that hip is ok

Hi Jez / Elsie, it was a top day on Sat, loads of time in t'saddle and even managed the run without severe pain (not so fortunate yesterday though, calf and shin playing up again!!!). Let's hope the wind's not around come race day! Hopefully see you both on the big day!!!
